Estimator

About the Role

This position has the critical responsibility of overseeing all cost estimates and bids for projects.  The specific project(s) must be managed accurately to the exact detail and they must be completed on time.  The incumbent will work with general contractors and company owners.  They will “make the sale” to the customer and be responsible for turning over the project to the project managers assigned to the project.

Job Functions

  • Provide cost estimates on all bids.
  • Cost estimates must include all materials, and labor and might provide for changes as the project evolves.
  • Contact and work with general contractors and owners.
  • Obtain outside quotes and subs necessary for bidded projects.
  • Manage projects above $100,000 in scope.
  • Manage and oversee projects from estimation to turnover.
  • Assist project managers throughout the life of the project.
  • Bring a project to a conclusion by working with project managers.
  • Supervision of estimators as required.

  • Computer skills are essential for this position.

  • Electrical systems knowledge is required for this position.
  • Construction experience is desired for this position.

Education and Experience

  • Sales knowledge and/or construction bidding experience is necessary for this position.

  • Electrical education including but not limited to a formal apprentice program is strongly preferred.
  • Working experience in the electrical industry is a requirement. This may include both field and office work to fully understand the overall project management flow of work.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information/material.
  • Proficient computer skills, including email, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and accounting software.
  • Mathematics – Using mathematics to solve problems. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Reading Comprehension – Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Time Management – Managing one’s own time and the time of others.
  • Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
